SUMMER SATURDAYS - Dresser Update

SUMMER SATURDAYS - Dresser Update

This week’s Summer Saturdays project is a quick update to beautify an old dresser, giving it a new lease on life. Get ready to transform your dresser from drab to fab in less than two hours!

MATERIALS NEEDED

STEP ONE: PREP THE DRESSER

Remove any hardware (handles, knobs, etc.) using a screwdriver. Clean the dresser thoroughly with a damp cloth or sponge to remove dirt and grime. Allow it to dry completely.

If necessary, sand the surface using medium-grit sandpaper, lightly sand the entire surface of the dresser. This will help the paint adhere better and create a smooth finish. Make sure to sand any rough spots or imperfections. Wipe away any sanding dust with a clean cloth.

STEP 2: PAINT

Add Earth Safe Finishes Perfect Paint in French Toast to the entire dresser surface (no base coat needed!). Start with the drawers, then move on to the main body. Apply smooth, even strokes in the direction of the wood grain. Allow the paint to dry.

STEP 3: ADD HIGHLIGHTS

For added visual interest, you can create highlights using the Earth Safe Finishes Perfect Paint in Licorice. Dip a smaller brush into the Licorice paint and lightly apply it to certain areas of the dresser, such as edges or decorative elements. This step is optional but can enhance the overall look of the dresser. Let the paint dry completely.

STEP 4: APPLY PROTECTIVE TOP COAT

To protect the painted surface and give it a finished look, apply a coat of Earth Safe Finishes No VOC Matte Varnish.

Once the varnish has dried completely, reattach the hardware, and you're all done!  Congratulations on saving money and contributing to reducing waste at the same time! Enjoy your newly transformed dresser!
